Kestell Furniture was established in the 1950s in New Holstein, Wisconsin, by Orville Kestell. The company began as a family-owned business with a focus on crafting high-quality wooden furniture, emphasizing durability and craftsmanship. Located at 1311 Milwaukee Drive, Kestell Furniture capitalized on the region's rich woodworking tradition and the availability of slow-growth northern hardwoods, which became a hallmark of their superior construction methods. From its inception, the company prioritized quality, setting a foundation for its reputation in the furniture industry.
By the 1950s, Kestell Furniture had solidified its position as a leading manufacturer of wooden event and venue furniture, particularly poker tables, gaming tables, and hardwood folding chairs. The company’s commitment to American-made products resonated with customers, and its 33,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in New Holstein became a hub for producing durable, high-quality furniture for both recreational and commercial use. The Kestell 210 Series rental chair, known for its robust design, became a standout product, often imitated but unmatched in craftsmanship.
Orville Kestell’s vision was carried forward by his son, William A. "Bill" Kestell, who served as president of Kestell Furniture until his retirement in 2007. Bill’s leadership reinforced the company’s commitment to quality and expanded its product line to include farm tables, benches, barrel tables, and risers tailored for the party rental market. After Bill’s retirement, ownership transitioned to his sister Mary and her husband Terry Kolb, who continued to manage family operations, preserving the family-owned ethos central to the company’s identity.
In approximately 2018, Kestell Furniture was sold to Andrew "Andy" Schwarz, a New Holstein native, and his wife Jenny, maintaining the company’s family-oriented approach. Under their leadership, Kestell continued its tradition of producing high-quality event and gaming furniture. In February 2023, the company was acquired by Alexander LeFave, a decorated veteran of the Afghanistan War and a Green Bay, Wisconsin native. LeFave, a passionate Green Bay Packers fan, served 15 years in the U.S. Army, rising from Private to Company Commander. He commanded tank battalions, including a deployment to Poland in Operation Atlantic Resolve. Married to Michelle, a fellow veteran, since 2007, LeFave has three daughters. After retiring to his home state with a desire to make a difference in his community, LeFave took the helm as President and Director of Kestell Furniture. Under his leadership, the company has sustained its core manufacturing focus while introducing modern initiatives, including the launch of an e-commerce platform in 2025 to expand market reach.
In recent decades, Kestell Furniture has adapted to changing consumer preferences while staying true to its roots. The company expanded into crafting recessed, tabletop gaming tables to meet the growing demand for board games and tabletop role-playing games. Their board game table, introduced as a fusion of their classic farm and poker table designs, gained recognition, earning a nomination as a "Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin" by Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce. Available in various sizes, colors, and upholstery options, these tables reflect Kestell’s ability to innovate while preserving timeless design principles.
Kestell Furniture’s dedication to quality is evident in its use of superior materials and precision manufacturing methods. The company’s products, including poker tables, card tables, and folding chairs, are designed for both home recreation and commercial event use, earning a loyal customer base. Operating Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 3 PM CST, Kestell remains accessible to customers, offering custom order options and maintaining a strong online presence through platforms like Etsy and its official website. The company’s deep ties to New Holstein, a community founded by German immigrants in 1848, reflect its integration into the region’s cultural and economic fabric.
Today, Kestell Furniture is recognized as the oldest and largest manufacturer of wooden poker tables and hardwood folding chairs globally, a testament to its enduring legacy. Under Alexander LeFave’s leadership, the company continues to operate from its New Holstein facility, employing local craftsmanship to produce furniture that blends tradition with modern functionality. LeFave’s commitment to community impact drives Kestell’s operations, ensuring the company remains a cornerstone of New Holstein’s economy. Its products are celebrated for their durability and aesthetic appeal, serving both residential and commercial markets. Kestell’s story is one of resilience, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to quality, rooted in the small-town values of New Holstein, Wisconsin.
